Apprenticeship System

Apprenticeship is a proven strategy that combines on-the-job training with related theoretical and practical classroom instruction to prepare exceptional workers for Arizona’s industry. Registered apprenticeship is a training system that produces highly skilled workers that meet the demands of employers competing in a global economy.

Private and public sectors – individual employers, employer associations or joint labor/management sponsors, operate registered apprenticeship programs. Program sponsors pay most of the training costs while also paying progressively increasing wages to apprentices as they gain skills. Registered apprenticeship programs can be competency based or time based depending on program sponsor needs.

The person hired as the apprentice could be someone with a disability who needs specialized on-the-job training to obtain employment.

The following document has additional information on the Apprenticeship program.

Enterprise Zone Program

The primary goal of the Arizona Enterprise Zone program is to improve the economies of areas in the state with high poverty and/or unemployment rates. The program does this by enhancing opportunities for private investment in certain areas that are called enterprise zones. The program offers two types of benefits: income or premium tax credits and property tax reduction.

Very often, people with disabilities live in areas that are economically depressed and in need of revitalization. Hiring disabled individuals from these zones would reverse the unemployment trend among this population and give their neighborhoods a much needed lift.
